Our CEO
I'm Nicholas Miron, the founder of Tuenne | Technical Outdoor Design. I received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Majoring in Industrial Design.
Back in the day I was an avid climber, and mountain biker, but nowadays it's mostly Road Biking and A WHOLE LOTTA surfing - LOL My love of all this outdoor activity really has become who I am and naturally is reflected in my design aesthetic. Ropes and machined aluminum are my thing.
Our Story
While at RISD in 2007 I became the dad of Nigel, my first dog. Nigel has since passed but his legacy is carried on in the Tuenne name. Tuenne was named after Nick and Nigel - 2N
I was studying Product design at RISD and as a new dog owner, I wanted to do everything right and that included getting the right dog leash and collar. As a Climber and Mountain Biker, I wanted something that reflected my outdoor lifestyle and resembled the gear I used in those pursuits. NOTHING existed! I began to play with retired ropes gifted from my local climbing gym. The best part of this is that I was getting school credit for developing this dog leash! It became the subject of various school assignments.
I started to machine endcaps from aluminum and tried some plastic over-molding onto the rope. It was a challenge to figure out a way to attach endcaps to the ropes in a way that would withstand the force adequate for a dog leash. The solution, with the help of the Co-Inventor, Alan Ackley of Ackley Metals, was quite extraordinary, resulting in 3 Utility Patents, custom fixtures, and lots of custom machined parts.
Nick & North
About 2 years after Nigel passed, I rescued North, my Beagle, Corgi, Jack-Russel Mix. No longer is it Nick and Nigel, we are now Nick and North.
North has boundless energy so I keep him well exercised with bike rides ( I ride, he runs) Whether we're exploring the great outdoors or in the shop making leashes, North is always by my side. In the studio, he offers inspiration and the occasional paw of approval. His spirited presence embodies the adventure and companionship that Tuenne strives to deliver in every product.

Auto Locking Carabiner
The carabiner has a spring assisted locking mechanism. Beware of leashes using carabiners that don't lock. They can open and are unsafe.
